            <dateline><date key="1861-12-28">Saturday 28.</date></dateline>
            <p>We had a drill this morning - But Col. Hartranft &amp;  Col Bell happened to go away, and we were ordered to drill the manual. It was <name type="weather">exceedingly cold</name>, so we had to
               double quick to get warm. Unfortunately for me <persName key="Gen Reno">Gen Reno</persName> came on to the <objectName type="equipment">drill</objectName>
               ground just as the other companies were gone, but I was still there, &amp; he saw
               us go into the <objectName type="equipment">manual.</objectName> I apologized by stating that we never got our <objectName type="equipment">muskets</objectName> until
               the day we left <placeName>Harrisburg</placeName>, &amp; we had to pay most attention to marching to keep
               up with the Regiment. He made the remark to<persName> Col Bell </persName>that we must drill more in
               the manual, &amp; mentioned<orgName key="Company H"> Co. H.</orgName> I felt badly all day about it. He caught <persName>the Col</persName> &amp; <persName>Lt Col </persName>as bad, absent from camp. He inspected Adjutant <objectName type="readable">Bible</objectName> dry.
               Bible is a fellow that don't know anything and knows too much. <persName key="Gen Hatch">The Gen</persName> stood us up
               wonderfully. I went to town with <persName key="John Morris">John Morris</persName> this afternoon, who felt gay, because
               he had just been appointed aide du camp to <persName>Gen Reno</persName>. We took a look at the
               <objectName type="vehicle ">transport fleet </objectName>- then took <objectName key="tea">tea</objectName> among at the <placeName>City Hote</placeName>l. There we saw <persName key="Gen Hatch">Gen Hatch</persName> a
               short red faced gray haired man.</p>
