Dear Mother, Dad, + Grandma --
First of all, Grandma, thank you for the $2. I shall use it for a meal. In fact, I was in town tonight and used a part of it -- and there's enough left for Sunday dinner too.
Sorry, I can't find a squaw -- but the picnic sounds like a good idea. Not that there aren't plenty of indians around here.
Glad to hear Peggy Davis was interested in me! But then I guess the competition in Washington must be pretty tough -- maybe that accounts for the extra rouge. Peggy was always a good friend -- but I sometimes wonder if she has a brain in her head.
It's too bad about Ken Herrold -- but I'm glad to hear it's no worse than having to take it easy for awhile. I'll try a write him this weekend.
Glad to hear business is back to normal. Better make hay while the sun shines! Business may not be so good when the wars over. But I for one won't care, as long as its over!
Sometimes I think that perhaps with luck, the war will be over and we can all live normal lives again in two or three years. Other times, I don't see how we can possibly do all we must do in less than fifteen or twenty years -- and I just don't like the idea of making the army a career.
I sent you a card, Dad, and a tie for Father's Day. Hope it arrives in time. I tried to pick one to go with your new suit! I have two cigars I would have liked to send too. I don't have anyone to give my gift cigars too anymore. The head of the department,
Colonel Burbach was promoted to full Colonel this week -- so I got a cigar from him. And one of the Sergeants in the department became a poppa -- so I had to take one of his too. Now I don't know what to do with them!
I got the letter from Alice & Bob Savidge. and the one from Penn. Alice + Bob are taking a church at Centerbrook, Conn. The letter from Law School was to inform me that my leave of absence had been extended. until such time as I might be discharged from the armed services.
Thank you for paying my AAA dues and for sending the bond. One never knows when it may come in handy -- so I like to carry it.
There's nothing new again -- so I have nothing special to tell you. I went to see a good movie Sunday night -- “Five Graves to Cairo" -- a war picture, with a new angle to it. No fighting at all -- which I liked.
Monday was routine -- and I spent Monday evening loafing in my room. Tuesday evening brought the regular Gunnery class, and tonight I went into town for supper. at the "Cowan" cafeteria -- wonder where they got the name -- and then went to see another movie -- "Forever and a Day" -- the story of an old London house. Not bad.
I have no section of my own again this week -- so things are fairly easy. I fully expect some sort of change shortly. Either a new job here on the post -- or else perhaps be shipped out. But don't be surprised if nothing happens at all!
