"[Langford was] first Superintendent of Yellowstone National Park, who served from 1872 to 1877 without pay, to save Yellowstone Park intact for the people, and to keep out those who made strenuous efforts to fence up features of the Park and charge admission thereto. The Park was established and dedicated in 1872, more than sixty years ago, "For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People."
