I returned with <persName type="Mitchell">the Capt</persName> to <orgName type="Camp">51 N.Y.</orgName> Camp, & met the <orgName type="Union">Reg't</orgName> in the afternoon when the review took place. <name type="weather">Hot and tiresome</name>. I met <persName type="Military">Capt. McChesney</persName> who was wounded and just returned – it appears that <pb facs="https://leaf.bucknell.edu/sites/default/files/2026-01/diary74.jpg"/> <fw><date when="1862-05-31">May 31</date>. continued</fw> </p><p><persName>Capt. Mitchell</persName> had met <persName>Capt McChesney</persName> just after the battle, had rendered him some assistance and given him a <objectName type="drink">drink of whiskey</objectName> out of his <objectName type="drink">flask</objectName>. They had not met since - so we talked the whole battle over again and I think gleaned more of it from this intelligent talk than I knew of it before - & could understand, because we were but a few hundred yards behind them. Then they found mutual acquaintances in <placeName type="State">New Jersey</placeName>. We were reviewed by the <persName key="Ambrose Burnside" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_personography.xml#jmlper008">Gov, Burnside</persName> and a very brilliant <orgName>staff</orgName>. There was no show, but everything looked uncommonly substantial and in good fighting order.
