            <dateline><date>Tuesday 24.</date></dateline>
            <p>Our company was paid off today. <persName>Shorkly</persName> received some 84 dollars, but<persName key="Beaver Tom"> Beaver </persName>&amp; I
               got none, as they paid out to the <date key="1st of November">1st of November</date> &amp; we were not mustered in
               until the <date>16th of November</date>. The first lieutenant received pay from the time he mustered in, but it was when we had 41 men, although not actually mustered in. We got in this afternoon and made our <objectType key="payroll">payrolls</objectType> for <date>Nov. &amp; Dec </date>- This evening, <persName>Beaver Tom </persName>and I went into <placeName>Annapolis</placeName>. It was more lively than I ever
               seen it. We went to an <placeName type="Church">Episcopal servic</placeName>e. The <placeName key="episcopal church">church</placeName> is very beautiful inside, with
               <objectName type="building">arches</objectName> and <objectName type="building">stained windows</objectName>, and the evergreen <objectName type="building">decorations</objectName> were beautifully
               contrasted on the chaste <objectName type="building">white walls</objectName>. The children sang a Christmas carol after
               the service.</p>
