            <p>I was officer of the day as usual on Sunday. It <name type="weather">rained</name> during the night and was
               <name type="weather">cool</name> and <name type="weather">pleasant</name> today. <persName key="Morris" type="private">Morris</persName> was here this afternoon. He told us that <persName key="Burnside" type="general">Gen. Burnside</persName> had gone to <placeName type="city" cert="high" key="Norfolk, Virginia" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnpl062">Norfolk<precision match="@ref" precision="high"/></placeName> yesterday, by the way of the <placeName type="city" key="Great Dismal Swamp" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnpl041">Dismal swamp</placeName> canal.
               Several of our <objectName type="vehicle">gun boats</objectName> have gone through and back. We had an elegant dinner —
