            <dateline><date when="1862-03-10">Monday 10th</date></dateline>
            <p>I think the <objectName type="readable">news</objectName> about <placeName key="Norfolk, VA">Norfolk</placeName> is a humbug. The navy not being ready 
            probably delayed us. I won't believe any <objectName type="readable">reports</objectName> any more. <persName key="Alcott" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_personography.xml#jmlper115">Alcott</persName> was on board 
            and told us that we were to go to <placeName key="Washington, D.C." type="Capital">Washington</placeName> and march from there to <placeName key="Newbern, NC" type="City">Newbern</placeName> 
            a distance of 35 miles. This may be true. An order came to have stairs up 
            at <time>six o'clock in the morning</time> and to follow the <objectName key="Northerner" type="vehicle">Northerner</objectName>. The <objectName type="vehicle">gunboats</objectName> 
            went away some-place this afternoon, and is blowing fiercely <time>this afternoon</time>. The <persName role="Dr.">Dr. </persName>told me he thought that <persName key="James A. Kelley" cert="medium" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_personography.xml#jmlper045" type="real">Kelly</persName> would die. His face is swollen 
            very much, and he has a perfect scab from the crown of his head to the sole of his foot. 
            Our boys there tell us that it was owing to his impudence -- he would pull off 
            his <objectName type="clothing">clothes</objectName> when he came there and caught cold. He was very stout and nasty, 
            [?] was always so cross-grained and ill-natured -- not ill natured -- but troublesome 
            &amp; contrary -- that he was a nuisance to <persName role="Surgeon">Surgeon</persName> and <persName role="Captain">Captain</persName>. He has not drilled 
           more than two weeks since he has been in the service. I regret very much that it 
            is so, for I rather liked him, and he did very well for the last two or three weeks, 
            after I had roughed him down. We can't expect to take all home with us, however. 
            <name type="weather">The moon is shining tonight</name>, and we have moonlight nights to fight under. </p>
