            <dateline><date>Thursday 6</date>.</dateline>
            <p>This was a delicious day. We were trying our <objectName type="equipment">Enfields</objectName> again this morning at
            about nine hundred yards. The boys were delighted that they could fire so effectively
            at such a distance. We can hardly blame reporters that they give such different accounts
            of things, for no two seem hardly seem to see alike. We were today discussing whether <persName role="Lt">Lt. Selden</persName>, who lay dead at the embrasure in the battery we took, had <objectName type="clothing">boots</objectName> on. 3
            or so asserted that he had <objectName type="clothing">top boots</objectName> -- others that he wore <objectName type="clothing">shoes</objectName>. We even located him at 
            different places in the battery. We are inclined to think that the story of <persName key="Gen. Nathanial Banks" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_personography.xml#jmlper094">Banks</persName>'
            defeat is a canard. <persName role="Sgt">Sgt</persName> was on shore and says the <objectName type="readable">report</objectName> had been flying
            around there several days -- that they had <objectName type="readables">papers</objectName> to the 27th which said nothing
            about it. It is said that the <objectName key="Spaulding" type="vehicle">Spaulding</objectName> is to be in soon, and that we
            are not to go until it comes. We think that the <objectName type="vehicle">ships</objectName> are very nearly all
            embarked, on board the different <objectName type="vehicle">vessels</objectName>. I hope the <objectName key="Spaulding" type="vehicle">Spaulding</objectName> will bring
            us a mail. I would like to hear some thing about what has happened
            since the taking of <placeName key="Savannah" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnpl078">Savannah</placeName> and <placeName key="Nashville" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnpl056">Nashville</placeName>.
