Description
Gandhi teaching spinning to visitors at Sevagram Ashram, circa 1945. Here Gandhi is providing instruction on how to use a type of portable spinning wheel called the "box charkha" which he advocated that all Indians should use for at least 1 hour each day to make khadi, homespun cotton, as part of the nationalist emphasis on swadeshi, or economic self-sufficiency.
