Description
Gandhi and coresidents leading the Great March, 1913. In November of 1913, Gandhi and coresidents from Tolstoy Farm and Phoenix Settlement led 2,037 men, 127 women, and 57 children on the "Great March" across the border from one South African colony into another in order to engage in a nonviolent protest of the racial discrimination against Indians in South Africa. Here Gandhi is here confronted by a police officer; he and many others would later be arrested and imprisoned for civil disobedience.
