I drew $41.90, after laundry and insuranced deductions. So I really didn't need your money order, Dad but thanks anyway. I don't like to have so much money on me, so I'm sending home a money order for $25. Please deposit it to my bank account. </p> <p> I was in to Fayettsville this afternoon and tried to reserve a room -- but they don't make reservations -- and wouldn't even let me pay in advance. I don't think they care or not whether they help a soldier. </p> <p> I can probably get a room at a tourist house for you. But I know this would not be as pleasant for you, especially since you are coming in late at night. Hence, I think the best plan is as I suggested in my telegram. Stop over either in Raleigh or Richmond for the night and then come on down here Friday. I can't get out to see you til about 5:30 Friday anyway, so it will make it a more leisurely trip for you, without losing any time together. Please let me know what you decide to do and when you will arrive, so that I can arrange for passes for you, etc. </p> <p> I don't know what we shall do Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Sunday. But we can decide that matter you get here. As you know, I have reservations for you for Friday Sat. + Sun. night at the Guest House. However, it might be better for all of us to go up to Raleigh + spend Saturday evening + Sunday there. We can decide that later too. I want you to see the camp anyway before we do anything else. </p> <p> Incidently, you better take a taxi out + have them take you to the Reception Center control gate. You'll have to get passes there before you can get in or out of the post. I'll let them know you are coming, so they'll have your names in the "visters expected" book. The taxi fare is high -- $2.50 -- but I don't know what else you can do. They make a nice racket out of it. And I thought Dutch Leiser charged too much! </p> <p> Now don't Just take a chance on getting a room Thursday night + come anyway -- because you may get fooled! There are only two hotels + neither is very large. I imagine that they may be filled up every night. So don't take a chance on it, stop off at some other city not too - far distant. </p> <p> No much new has happened since my last letter. I was on K.P. again yesterday. The Battalion had a dance Friday night -- 250 men and about 25 girls. I watched. </p> <p> This morning we paraded for the commanding General. Some outfit passes in review every Saturday morning. You'll have to go out to see it next week. </p> <closer> <salute>Yours,</salute><lb/> <signed>John</signed> </closer> <postscript> <p> P.S. Better answer this by air mail so I get it in time - or else wire me the time of your arrival at Fort Bragg. </p> <signed>J.</signed> </postscript> </div> </body> </text> </TEI>
