Dear Mother, Dad, + Grandma --
Not much new tonight–so this won't be long this time. I had study hall Monday night. and the regular Gunnery class last night -- so I haven't been anywhere or done anything new and startling.
I got tired eating at the cafeteria -- so I've signed up for G.I. mess again. It’s no better -- but I'll try it for awhile at least. At least its cheap -- 70¢ a day. I can’t get a meal for 35¢ anywhere else -- even if the army cooks aren't such wonderful cooks.
Your candy arrived today. Thank you very much. I enjoyed it tremendously -- and still am, although the boys in the office helped me eat most of it. I'm glad Mr. Birchard wouldn't send chocolates, for I like this kind better anyway.
Your Wednesday -- or rather the letter you wrote on Sunday -- has not yet arrived. I guess the mails are on the bums again.
I just finished another volume of "Abe Lincoln", and as soon as I finish this, I'll head for the PX and some ice cream. Lt. Strattan, one of the men in the Dept who lives in the next barracks, is waiting for me -- so I'd better hurry.
I don't have a section of my own this week, so I have it a bit easier. However, I have some work with the enlisted instructors to keep me busy. Yesterday a taught 1st aid for an hour -- and Friday I have to give them Cannoneers Lops -- so they keep me from falling asleep anyway.
Love,John
