I don't remember if I told you that Paul Everhart flunked out of OCS. Now don’t tell it at home. I feel awfully sorry for him for he really tried. But I knew when he had trouble in Materiel that he wouldn't get through Gunnery. He's been shipped out -- to Camp Walters, Texas.
This morning we had a special parade -- and after we were all formed -- all the officers of the entire school -- the General read a letter of commendation from General Mr. Nair. It seems the Field Artillery has been doing an exceptionally good job -- and they blame us for it.
After the parade I went into town to church. I attended the First Baptist. It's quite large and they had a good turn out -- but they are very much fundamentalist. The Holy Rollers are on about the same plane. The service ended up a la Billy Sunday with a call for all those who wanted to be saved.
Thank goodness the North Baptists don't have that kind of religion. I think next time I go to town I'll try the Methodists or Congregationals
I had a turkey dinner in town and some excellent cantalope and then came back to the post to see a movie. After the show I went around to see Mrs. Bucher -- but no one answered the door. Either there was no one home or they were sleeping. I'm going to try again Wednesday.
This evening Lt. Strattan and I took a bus into town -- stopped at a roadside stand -- bought a watermelon and came back out. It's on ice now -- and we're going to throw a party at 9:00.
Love,John
