furious thunderstorm</name>. We had news yesterday of the battles of <placeName>West Point </placeName>and <placeName>Williamsburg</placeName>, and this afternoon received mail & papers. I had a letter from <persName key="John Blair Linn" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_personography.xml#jmlper051">John</persName> of the <orgName>7th</orgName> by which time they had just received letters from us. <orgName>Col Emory's Brigade</orgName> with the <orgName> 2nd</orgName> <placeName>Maryland</placeName> went off on some expedition to day. </p> <pb facs="https://leaf.bucknell.edu/sites/default/files/2026-01/diary67.jpg"/> <p><persName key="Ambrose Burnside" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_personography.xml#jmlper008">Gen. Burnside</persName> returned yesterday, and there was a review of the Cavalry Regiment [Col. Wine] - it is a splendid regiment. Yesterday we were over looking at two sections of light artillery firing at a target. The other field resembled<placeName key="Camden" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnpl008"> Camden</placeName>, and the firing resembled it most, only we were behind instead of in front. They were firing at targets from <placeName key="Fort Totten" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnpl036">Fort Totten </placeName>with 32 pdrs. Thunder what a noise & it called up<placeName key="New Berne" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnpl059"> New Bern</placeName> - when the 24 & 32 pdrs from the water batteries put in their occasional clamor, above the din and noise of the smaller fry. </p> </div> </body> </text> </TEI>
