<persPronouns>We</persPronouns> ran up toward the head of the <placeName>Island</placeName> and got aground. We were better off on the <objectName subtype="boat" type="vehicle">Ocean Wave</objectName> and with the assistance of the tug <objectName subtype="boat" type="vehicle">Champion,</objectName> <objectName subtype="boat" type="vehicle">The Guide</objectName> got through and anchored above the <placeName>light house</placeName>. <objectName subtype="boat">The Northerner</objectName> came up with the 21st Mass and anchored near us. About 3 o’clock the <placeName subtype="boat">Picket</placeName>, <objectName subtype="boat">Phoenix</objectName>, <objectName subtype="boat">Massasoit</objectName>, <objectName subtype="boat">Ocean Wave</objectName> and <objectName subtype="boat">Pilot Boy</objectName> came along with <objectName>hooks</objectName>. They were the <orgName subtype="regiment">6th N.H. 9</orgName> & <orgName subtype="regiment">89 N.Y, 21 Mass</orgName>. <persPronouns>We</persPronouns> were to wait until <placeName subtype="boat">The Phil.</placeName> came along <persPronouns>She</persPronouns> came with a flat and <objectName>guns</objectName> on, and about five o’clock got under way across <placeName>the Sound</placeName>. The wind blew strongly and it was very rough making some sea-sick. We understand that we are to land at <placeName cert="high" key="Elizabeth City" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnpl022">Elizabeth City<precision match="@ref" precision="high"/></placeName>, march up to <placeName key="Grape Mills" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnpl040">Grape Mills</placeName> destroy the <objectName>locks</objectName> & come down the left Bank- root out some <objectName>batteries</objectName>.
