Description
Gandhi and coresidents from Sevagram Ashram mourning the passing of Kasturba Gandhi and Mahadev Desai at the Aga Khan Palace prison, 1944. Kasturba and Mahadev had been imprisoned there (alongside Gandhi and the others in the photo) for their participation in the Quit India anticolonial campaign. Pictured in the photo are Gandhi (front center), Manu Gandhi (to Gandhi's right), Sushila Nayar (to Gandhi's left), Pyarelal Nayar (behind Sushila), and Mirabehn (under the umbrella).
