The residents of Phoenix Settlement, 1905. Gandhi is in the third row; Kasturba is among the women in the second row. These residents all agreed to live together as equals and earn the same wages for doing the same labor on their working farm and printing press. Together they sought to form a multi-racial and multi-religious community as an alternative to the colonialist and capitalist status quo.
