On November 28th, 1558, Elizabeth entered London for the first time following Queen Mary’s death and Elizabeth being proclaimed queen. Her procession started outside of the City of London in Lord North’s residence, the Charterhouse. Accompanied by the Lord Mayor, she rides from Charterhouse through the city ending at the Tower of London. Her route between King’s Head Tavern and Mart Lane was lined by members of the Worshipful Companies. From Mart Lane onwards, artillery was fired from the Tower. This map depicts this route, as well as the locations of Worshipful Companies and other performers.
