Description
Amtul Salaam breaks her fast, 1947. After riots broke out between Hindus and Muslims at the time of independence, Gandhi was not the only one who fasted to try to restore peace. Here Amtul Salaam is seen breaking her arduous 21-day-long fast. Also depicted are Gandhi (on the left), Abha Gandhi (behind Amtul Salaam), and Sushila Nayar (far right).
