            <dateline><date>Monday 26</date>.</dateline>
            <p>It has been a succession of rainy days. We have a nice cozy time indoors, but
               cant help thinking of <orgName>McClellan’s army</orgName>: it must be dreadful in that low swampy
               country. <persName key="Jacob G. Beaver" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_personography.xml#jmlper003">Lt Beaver</persName> and I strolled around town after morning drill. We saw two
               of<persName key="Em French" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_personography.xml#jmlper029"> Em French’s</persName> whores &amp; several from the crow-nest. <persName key="George Shorkley" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_personography.xml#jmlper002">Shorkley’s</persName> &amp; my
               visit to those celebrated places is unrecorded, but not unremembered. I never
               had such fun as the crow-nest afforded. There are three ladies that live down
               in a house with a porch in front that <persName key="Jacob G. Beaver" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_personography.xml#jmlper003">Beaver</persName> and I take occasion to pass every
               day - they are the only ladies we have seen in town. On Saturday, we met a
<persName key="Col. Pollack" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_personography.xml#jmlper198"> Pollock</persName> from <placeName key="Reading" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnpl074">Reading, </placeName>cousin of <persName>John’s wife</persName> - a corporal in one of the<orgName> 4 companies of the 48th,</orgName> which had been left at <placeName key="Cape Hatteras" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnp0l13">Hatteras</placeName>, and came on here the
               other day. I met him in<placeName key="Philadelphia" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnpl069"> Philadelphia</placeName> when <persName key="John Morris" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_personography.xml#jmlper057">Morris</persName> &amp; I were there, and little
               dreamed of meeting him here. I might have seen him at <placeName key="Cape Hatteras" ref="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BucknellDSC/jmlinn/refs/heads/main/jmlinn_gazetteer.xml#linnp0l13">Hatteras</placeName> had I taken the
               trouble to go to <placeName>Merifield </placeName>but I did not know he was there. </p>
