<salute> Dear Mother, Dad, + Grandma </salute>
 </opener>

I'm glad Grandma had such a nice day last week -- and I'm glad too that she was
pleased with the handkerchiefs. It is awfully hard to know what to get for her.

The box of nuts has not yet arrived, Mother, but I suppose it will be along in
this afternoon's mail or tomorrow's. Your Sunday letter arrived this morning.
Just another ten years and you can sit on the platform at commencement too,
 Mother!

I'm glad business is so good at the store, but for the life of me I can't
imagine what it is you're selling

I've first returned from lunch and I'll have to hurry to get this written before
class time. This morning I had four hours of class and I have four more this
afternoon. The last two hours I'll have to talk above the rattle of machine guns
-- so I fully expect to be hoarse by supper time.

Monday night I had my 1st session. teaching our enlisted instructors something
about Gunnery. It went off fairly well. I have another session tomorrow night.

Yesterday, being the newest man in the department, I got stuck with a job. I was
a PX Inventory officer. I spent the day counting shoelaces, cigarettes, and
chewing gum. I had to certify to the exact amount of stock on hand in the PX to
which I was assigned. It was quite a job. And then last night I had Study Hall.

Paul Everhart came to see me Sunday afternoon just after I had mailed my letter
to you. We had quite a nice chat.

Wells came over last night. He lives on the main post now. He missed Airplane
connections too became of priorities and had to go home by train. And coming
back he was a day late because of the floods.

I had a note from Dorothy Griffith yesterday inviting mw to supper Sunday
evening. I'll tell you about it next time I write.

The B.U. boy who was a Demie + graduate in '36 is here now. I gave him quite a
surprise when I slipped him the Demie grip. We had a chat together last evening
 in Study Hall.

I have another new lecture on Friday What I thought on Sunday would be an easy
week has turned out to be my hardest. Monday the schedule was revised and I
pulled a more than full schedule. The new lecture is to be delivered to a class
of officers in the officer's basic course. I expect plenty of trouble with it,
for the officers seem to delight. in asking difficult questions. But I guess
 I'll survive.

I'm writing up my own lecture notes this week too -- so I really have almost too
much to do, for a change.
