<salute> Dear Mother, Dad, + Grandma -- </salute></opener>

Again your Wednesday letter has not arrived. But it will be along in the 1st
 mail. tomorrow I'm sure.

I mailed a box containing a little birthday gift to you Grandma. I hope you got
it in time. And here's wishing you a very Happy Birthday, I wish I could be
 there to help you celebrate.

The trunk arrived safely -- as did the key. I've got it here now. I packed my
winter uniforms in my footlocker and doused them good with moth balls. I'm
using the chest of drawers in the trunk to keep the things in that I use week.
 It's a very handy arrangement.

Wednesday evening I took Wells to town for dinner. He left on Thursday -- but
he'll be back next Sunday again.

I was in town again on Saturday and went to a movie. I'd planned to go in
tonight for supper, but it has started to rain again - a thunder shower - so I'm
 afraid I won't make it.

This is the most changeable weather. yesterday afternoon and evening were
beautiful - and it was just a bit too warm. Today it is cold again and raining.

We had a new Chaplain at our Chapel again this morning. This one is to continue
here I believe. His the 1st to have a printed programor. ballitim. He preaches
over in the New Post Chapel at 10:00 and then comes over here at 11:00. His
service this morning was quite good and he had a Sgt. sing a very fine solo. By
far the best male voice I think I've ever heard except on the radio. I'm
 inclosing the bulletin.

I had a letter this week from Young. He's still at Bragg as are most of my
friends from Class 56. However, some of the boys were pulled out of FARTC and
sent to New York. By now they are making regular trips back + forth across the
Atlantic -- manning the deck guns on troop transports.

A friend of mine from D-8-3 who finished OCS two weeks before I did and then
went on to survey school is in the New Division Officers Course now. He's to be
Assistant S-2 in the famous Rainbow Division -- now being activated at Camp
Gruber, Okla. I think he's mighty lucky. He'll be a 1st Lt. inside of another
 month or so.

I had a letter from Gene Edmunds this week too. I dropped him a card one day
after seeing his address in the Bucknellian. He's now a Lt. too and expects to
be overseas very soon. He's in the air corps, you know.

The past week went by very smoothly. The new lectures went off without a hitch.
Next week, I have it a bit easier. I have a section of my own this week for the
1st time -- so, at the end of the week I'll have to make comments on each man. I
have study hall tomorrow night -- the easy night since we've had no exams and
hence no compulsory attendance for flunkers.

I spent a full day on the range this past week and I have two half-days again
this coming week. I'm getting to be a pretty good shot when I take my time --
but most of the time I fire combat style to demonstrate the technique, -- and
 its not as accurate.

We go an the new summer schedule tomorrow. Classes begin at 7:30 and are over at
4:30, with lunch from 11:30 to 12:30. I'll have to go to bed early tonight if
I'm to be up on time in the morning.
