<salute> Dear Mother, Dad, + Grandma -- </salute>
 </opener>

Again your Wednesday letter has not arrived in Saturdays mail. This makes three
weeks in a row. I guess the postal dept. is slowing down. At any rate we shall
 blame it on them.

Theres not too much news. I was out on the range again Friday and spent half a
day conducting fire. Saturday afternoon I went to town, had a meal, and saw a
movie. I also purchased two more summer uniforms. I have all I shall buy now
unless I decide to buy a summer blouse. Last night I can home early and listened
to the radio, read, + got my clothes ready to store away for the summer.

We had a substitute Chaplain this morning. He was very young -- just out of
seminary -- am just returned to Sill after a furlough. He wasnt too well
prepared, but gave a good sermon anyhow. Next Sunday we get still a different
one. One of these weeks I shall have to try services in town -- if I can get up
early enough to get in or time.

I wrote letters most of the afternoon and then got dressed + went in town. Jim
Dean and his wife had invited me for supper. I almost didnt make it, for we had
a terrific storm. Its been raining almost all week-end.

They have a very lovely cottage -- very nicely furnished, etc. I didn’t know you
could rent a place like that these days. He was just lucky enough to find it.

We had a very good meal. Some kind of meat pie made with mushrooms, a very good
fruit & gelatine salad, buttered carrots, homemade rolls, mashed potatoes,
and some kind of rubarb custard. Like Dad, I know how to eat things I don’t
 ordinary eat when Im out.

After supper Dean + I had to come back to the post for 7:30 study hall. I just a
moment ago finished and sent the last O.C. packing for his barracks.

Up until now the weather here has been gorgeous. But yesterday and today has
been chilly & rainy. Electrical storms too. Yesterday we had hail the size
of marbles. It would get ugly just when we go into summer uniform.

Ive lost my mess hall. It seems a new class for higher ranking officers is
coming into this area and we are ranked out of our mess hall. They wanted to put
us in another mess hall under the same management but just twice as far away
from the Material Dept. Rather than to spend the whole noon hour walking to and
from, we just dropped it altogether. So I shall have to go back to eating at the
cafeteria. again. I should even be able to save some money on the deal for I
wont have to be paying for breakfast I don’t eat -- and for meals I dont attend
-- as when I go to town.

Within the next 15 days all of the officers mess halls are to go on G I rations,
anyway, and they are planning to open a new mess hall between our barracks + the
Materiel Dept. If they do I shall sign up for that. It will only cost about $26
 a month (I had been paying $44.)

Wells Henderson is to return here for a month of Executive School. He graduates
 from O.C. this Thursday.

I have a big week ahead. For the first time since Ive been here I have a full
schedule -- and I have two new lectures too -- so I shall have no cause to
complain of inaction. Since one of the new lectures comes in the morning, I
think I had better close for now and review my notes.

 <salute>Yours, with love,</salute><lb/>
