<salute>Dear Mother + Dad--</salute></opener>

Well, I weathered the 1st week of
Center School anyway. I've had S's
on all my tests so far. They give only
two marks-- S & U. S for Satisfactory,
U for unsatisfactory. Now only three
more weeks to go here and then I can
get ready for a 3 mo. grind at Sill.

I've discovered then when I
leave here I go as a Corporal -- so my
pay for the 3 mo at Sill will be $66 a
it?
mo., I believe. A $16 raise isn't bad, is it?

This has been a very difficult
week. If possible, it's even worse than
my 1st week at Penn last year. But
now that I am on the system and know

more or less of what is expected -- things
should go easier.

I figured I needed a rest-- so
I've relaxed since noon today (Saturday)
After church tomorrow I shall have to get
back "on the ball".

This afternoon I answered letters
and read a bit in the library. I went to
the early movie this evening and saw
"Tales of Manhatten". It's very good -- if
it hasn't already been to the Campus, be
sure to see it.

The papers arrived this afternoon.
I see that they counted the soldier ballots
this week. I had one of those -- mine must
have been the Democratic vote.

Don't say anything to the Groover's
but I haven't received any items for a
week now. I wonder if they have stopped
sending them.

Did I tell you -- I had a very nice
letter from Ken this week -- and one from the Nutts signed Dottie & Dick, but in Dottie's
handwriting. The girl Ken is going with
is the one he told me he had been dating last
year. Her father is Dean at Colgate-Rochester.
Ken will be right in there, won't he?

I had a very nice Chistmas card
from Mal Musser with a brief note on
the back. Thank him for me, will you? I
suppose he is busy getting ready to leave
for the Navy.

I wish someone would tell whoever
writes the Lbg. Saturday News Editorials,
that there is a war on -- and that their
continual gloating Republican editorials
are a bit out of place. If they can't do
anything mare constructive than pick at
the administration and quarrel over petty
issues, then they had better stop publication
and save the newsprint and send in their

presses for scrap. After reading their
editorial this week, I'm mad enough
to write them myself -- maybe I will.
I think I shall stop now and go
to bed. Then I can finish this tomorrow
after church.

Sunday--
I have nothing much to add to what
I wrote last night. So I guess I'll just
inclose the church program and close til later
in the week.

P.S. - I'll be thinking of you this Thursday
and wishing I could be home with you for one
of Mother's Thanksgiving dinners. But we
do have so much to be thankful for, even tho
we can't be together. I am eternally grateful
for the shower of good things God has bestowed
upon us. So even tho I can't have an old-
fashioned Thanksgiving, I've resolved to make
mine a real Thanksgiving anyway. J.
