Description

Harmony Hammond is an artist, art writer, and independent curator born on February 8, 1944. Hammond hails from Chicago and ​​attended the University of Minnesota from 1963-67. Then, in 1969, she moved to Manhattan to start her career and life. Hammond took on many projects, such as co-founding A.I.R., the first women’s cooperative art gallery in New York. In 1975, she taught at Sagaris (Session I), an educational institute and space for radical feminist political thought. A year later, she began meeting with the women she worked with on Heresies: A Feminist Publication on Art and Politics. Hammond carefully co-edited many of the issues written in Heresies. After a decade of work, Hammond moved to Galisteo, New Mexico. Hammond has spent time there teaching at the University of Arizona, creating art, and crafting essays. Now, Hammond spends her days teaching Aikido (5th degree Black Belt).
